Flip The Bird, a locally-owned restaurant specializing in Southern-style fried chicken and ribs, got its start in Beverly in 2019 and now, four years later, is set to open its fourth Massachusetts location, according to Flip The Bird.
Construction has already begun at 880 Main Street in Woburn, which previously housed a "Wuburger" location.
“We were waiting for the perfect location to pop up that was not too far away from our commissary, but just enough to reach a new market," said Anthony Marino, who co-owns Flip the Bird along with Victoria Farnsworth. "We loved this location right when we saw it; it’s very community-driven, which is something we highly value at Flip The Bird."
Flip the Bird specializes in fried chicken sandwiches with unique flavor combinations made using quality, local ingredients.
Its menu features curated sandwiches like "The Cry Bird," made with fried chicken dipped and dusted in ghost peppers and topped with shredded lettuce and red pepper jelly.
For those looking for something less spicy, "The Early Bird" fits the bill, made with fried chicken, a cage-free sunny side egg, chopped chives, and honey butter.
Diners can also choose from BBQ baby back ribs, buttermilk biscuits, and chicken and waffles, not to mention multiple Southern-style sides and frappes made with Richardson’s ice cream.
The customizable menu offers something for those looking for lighter fare too, since any sandwich can be made into a salad and fried chicken can be swapped for grilled.
"The sandwich is just perfectly executed and constructed," read one five-star Yelp review. "I had the Angry Bird, which was delicious and hot; I can't wait to come back for the hotter one. The sides and sauces are all incredible and clearly homemade... The fact that this place is locally and family-owned is the cherry on top."
The Woburn location of Flip The Bird is set to open in the summer of 2023 and will offer online ordering, takeout, and dine-in options.
